Tim Laman, Tom Swartwout
Tim Laman is a field biologist, wildlife photojournalist, and filmmaker. His credits include twenty-three feature stories in National Geographic magazine, cinematography credits on BBC’s Planet Earth II and multiple programs for NatGeo Wild, as well as director and producer credits on award-winning short films. Other awards include Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2016, World Press Photo, and Nature’s Best. He is the co-founder of the Birds-of-Paradise Project with Ed Scholes at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and has made over twenty-five expeditions to the New Guinea region documenting this emblematic group of birds. Other long-term projects include collaboration with his wife Cheryl Knott documenting research and conservation issues facing orangutans in Borneo. He is a Research Associate at Harvard University where he obtained his Ph.D., is a founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers, and a Fellow of the Explorer’s Club. Tom Swartwout is an editor, producer, and director of feature films, documentaries, and television shows. As Sidney Lumet’s editor for over a decade, his credits include BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD, FIND ME GUILTY, and 100 CENTRE STREET. He has edited documentaries and series documentaries for PBS, HBO, Discovery, The New York Times, and the History Channel, including A CITY ON FIRE: THE STORY OF THE ’68 DETROIT TIGERS, MOST EVIL, ARCTIC RUSH, FIRST 48, RESIDENT LIFE, and EVOLVE. Most recently he edited and co-directed THE SAGEBRUSH SEA which aired on the PBS series NATURE. He currently works at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as part of the team that produces conservation media.
