University Roadshow @ Geomatika University
19.4.2016 – The next stop in university roadshows to promote the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival 2016 was Geomatika University located in Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur.
The roadshow was presented in a hall filled with students from the faculty of creative media and arts such as journalism and broadcasting.
Emirul, an intern at Ecoknights shared a presentation about the purpose of KLEFF which was to create awareness in regards to environmental related problems faced in this day and age. He stressed the importance of education through videos and films as media is such a powerful tool to reach out to the masses in an effective way.
One of the categories entitled to a RM3000 cash prize for the winner was the JKR-UNDP Energy Efficiency in Buildings Category which involves the production of a video related to energy efficiency in buildings.
The students were then shown examples of PSAs, short films, animations and a documentary sent by submitters from previous years to give them a rough idea about the making of these film categories.
The documentary shown to the students was ‘Sunset over Selungo’, which was about the Penan tribe in Selungo that relied on the forest as a source of food and shelter for decades. Sadly their livelihood has been threatened by unregulated and illegal logging of forests. The film resolved with the Penan Peace Park proposal which aims: to guard their lands against loggers and preserve their culture for generations to come.
